CISD Parents - The district is aware of the recent concerning behavior in other Houston-area school districts regarding students ingesting THC-infused gummies. THC is the psychoactive substance found in marijuana.
Substances containing THC - such as CBD gummies, Delta 8, and herbal supplements - may be legally purchased by those 18 years of age and older, however, these substances ARE NOT regulated by the FDA. This means that what is listed on the package is not verified by dose, strength, or additional substances. The concentration and strength of THC in these edible products are very difficult to measure and are often unknown.
Those who have consumed cannabis edibles may:
Act lethargic.
Feel dizzy.
Have trouble walking or sitting up.
Have an accelerated heart rate.
Have trouble breathing.
We would like for everyone to be aware that even “legal” substances can still bring harm. In the cases of student hospitalizations at other districts, it is suspected there were additional substances in these gummies. Fentanyl and other illegal substances have been found in these products. Please talk to your students about the dangers of drugs, edibles, and other assumed “natural” supplements. We want you to know that we will continue with our efforts to ensure every campus is safe for our students.
LEGAL DOES NOT MEAN SAFE!

The following suggestions will help your child be successful on the benchmark tests:
Get plenty of sleep before each test.
Arrive at school on time. Doors open at 7:20 a.m.
Begin each day with breakfast. Breakfast is provided free of charge on campus.
It is important that your child be at school unless he/she is sick. Please contact the school if he/she is sick.
Most importantly, encourage your child to do his/her best.
We are very proud of the work the children and teachers have done to prepare for these tests. We expect great things from our kids this year. Thank you for supporting our efforts at Cleveland Middle School.
Sincerely,
Christina Castillo
Principal
CISD is recognized as a "Best of the Bunch" Farm Fresh Challenge Winner by the Texas Department of Agriculture! This recognition demonstrates our commitment to operating an excellent nutrition program that inspires new attitudes about good nutrition and healthy lifestyles!
Big news for CMS!!
During the fall semester, students from CMS participated in an essay contest hosted by Young Writers. The students had to write a 100-word mini-saga. The contest was organized in conjunction with middle and high schools across the nation to encourage children and young adults to read, write, and enjoy creative writing.
142 CMS Scholars were chosen for an opportunity to be published in the next edition (Fall 2024) of the Young Writers book: Hunted- Give Up The Chase. The student essays were selected based on imagination, creativity, and use of language.
CMS is extremely proud of the accomplishments of these scholars and our RLA teachers!!!!

Cleveland ISD has implemented a new shared vision and mission with guiding documents. Our shared vision was created by stakeholders for stakeholders, including parents and students. Throughout the school year, we will survey our families on three occasions to measure our progress in implementing the shared vision and determine areas where continuous improvement is needed. Additionally, this survey will provide a high-level overview of our families' perceptions of their overall CISD experiences. Open-ended responses at the end of the survey will allow you to provide more specific information that may not have been asked or addressed in the questions listed in the survey. If you have students enrolled at multiple campuses, please complete one survey for each of the campuses your children attend.
The Middle of the Year [MOY] survey is open January 22-February 2, 2024. Data collected in this survey is anonymous, and we ask for and appreciate your authentic insight and feedback. The Strategic Planning Team will use the survey results in February to reflect on our progress and make any adjustments to our implementation plans. Please take the time to participate in our survey. Your feedback is critical in our continued pursuit of a shared vision for all stakeholders, especially our students. Thank you in advance for your time and continued commitment to Cleveland ISD.

Thank you for your patience.

Cleveland ISD warming centers will continue operations until 5AM Wednesday, January 17th. As of right now, Wednesday will be a regular school day. If a decision is made to also close the district on Wednesday, warming center hours will be extended.
Due to concerns regarding extreme cold and wind chill conditions, Cleveland ISD will be closing all campuses and facilities on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. The warming centers at Cleveland Middle School and Santa Fe Middle School will be extending their hours of operation until 5PM Tuesday. All enrolled Cleveland ISD students and their families are welcome.
CISD Families,
In response to the winter weather that is expected to arrive Sunday morning, Cleveland ISD will be opening two warming centers for students and their families. These will be held in the Cleveland Middle School and Santa Fe Middle School cafeterias starting on Sunday, January 14th at 9AM. As of right now, these are expected to run 24/7 until Tuesday, January 16th at 5AM. Security will be present at each warming center at all times.
In the event that the district closes on Tuesday due to weather, the warming centers will extend their hours. At this time, Tuesday, January 16th is a normal school day. If this changes, the district will let our students, staff, and community know as soon as the decision is made.
These warming centers will be open to enrolled students and their families. Students must have their IDs. Families will be allowed to bring their own blankets, pillows, chairs, food, drinks, etc. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted. It's important to note that the district is ONLY providing a warm space for families. Food and drink will not be provided by the district. Pets are not able to be accommodated.
